The genus Montipora contains over one hundred different species of coral worldwide. Classification of all these corals is difficult and made even harder by the fact that they exhibit polymorphism, showing great variety in growth form depending on the area where they are growing.
Colonies of this group of corals can be submassive, laminar, branching or encrusting. Many of the
Montipora growth forms are very colourful and attractive and this along with the less demanding
nature of many of the species makes them an excellent choice for the reef aquarium.
